On February 1, Carleton joined an amicus brief in support of the appeal from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in Texas v. United States, the case involving the legality of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Filed by the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, of which Carleton president Alison Byerly is a board member, and TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college and career success program for undocumented immigrant students, the amicus brief is signed by 168 total colleges, universities, institutions, and nonprofits in 32 states and Washington, D.C. The brief highlights emerging data from TheDream.US and asserts the “enormous and positive impact” DACA recipients have had “on their employers, their families, and the U.S. economy as a whole.”
